Daycare chronicles

So Conrad was kicked out of daycare this last week until Thursday due to thrush. Last week, he had croup for which he was prescribed an oral steroid (which did NADA except make him hyper and more irritable so I don't recommend this to anyone). Apparently, the oral steroid gave him thrush which Dad discovered Labor Day morning feeding him breakfast.

Back to daycare he went, and he was sooo happy to see his teacher and she him. Each day, we receive an "Infant Daily Report." This usually just has his naptimes, diaper changes (we always hope to see BM checked off for us) and of course, his many feedings throughout the day. Occasionally, his teachers write a memorable or cute moment from his day. Here is the note we received from Friday, September 5th:

"When J.D. [a younger baby in the same class] was crying, Conrad found J.D.'s pacifier and put it back in J.D.'s mouth. It was cute."

We're sure Conrad knew how much J.D. wanted his pacifier. Afterall, he loves his too. And, we were relieved that Conrad was not found sucking on J.D.'s pacifier.

Croup coughs

Among the list of other things Conrad has contracted from being a daycare baby, he now officially has the Croup. Maybe if Conrad didn't go around kissing the other babies on their faces, he wouldn't get everything that goes around!

In addition to the nasty croup cough (he barks like a seal at night), his voice/cry is hoarse--- this was the first sign that he had croup. We were not prepared for the endless drool (yet another symptom). In cutting all 4 of his teeth, we never had this much drool so we are back to wearing bibs all day.

Other than that, he's pretty much the same energetic walker. He's just a little fussy (probably due to his [and my] sleep and naps being interrupted. His pediatrician assured me today that he would be back to his old self by the weekend. ** Here's to hoping ** In the meantime, here are some of the latest pics captured at daycare.

Peek into daycare

We leave a disposable camera in Conrad's cubby at daycare. I wish we had thought of this, but they mentioned it in one of their newsletters and immediately got one.

We've been getting daily notes about cute pictures they've taken so were excited to finally get the pictures developed this last weekend.

Finally, we have a peek into his daily activities... from the pictures, it looks like he gets into some mischief (getting stuck in the toy bookcase), self-admiration (Conrad looking at himself in the mirror) and hanging out with the gang (please note, they were actually trying to get a picture of Conrad kissing the little boy in the jumper as that was what prompted them to grab the camera-- Conrad insisted on hamming it up for the picture instead). And, as always, practices standing on his own.

He definitely keeps busy and keeps his teachers on their toes. He doesn't nap a whole lot there anymore. He always wants to be part of the action.

First crush

I thought we wouldn't encounter this until at least kindergarten, but Conrad has his first crush...

on his daycare teacher!!

He may be having a fussy or rough morning but once he is in her arms, he is a changed boy! He suddenly is all smiles and giggles. This morning he was even hugging her face. It was pretty cute, but I was a bit jealous.

However, I am extremely grateful for him to be cared for by someone who adores him as much as he adores her. She is great about giving us daily updates and writing notes about his cute moments each day. He started mimicking her cough the other day. Now, he practices coughing all day long.

Tickle Baby Germs

I drop Conrad off at daycare every morning. He is the only infant there when I drop him off so he spends the first hour or so with the toddler age group. Apparently, he is quite the hit.

His teacher is training another morning worker and was telling her that she is working with the "older" kids to stay out of his face and from grabbing his hands. She says they love playing with the baby...

But, since he is forever drooling these days and sucking on his hands and getting drool just about everywhere, the toddlers then start hollering that they have "Tickle Baby Germs" and need to wash their hands. I thought this was pretty funny. They like to tickle the baby on his face but then don't like all the drool that sticks to them.

I think they also like climbing the steps to the sink. Handwashing seems to be pretty popular among their age group. All these "Tickle Baby Germs" may explain his bout with pink eye and his ever-present running nose. I have to agree with them. He is a pretty cute Tickle Baby and I can't blame them for not being able to resist him!

Pink eye saga

Well, since Conrad has been in daycare he has had the stomach bug (which he gave to me and then to Barry). He is on his second cold that has now given him PINK EYE.

I had pink about a year and a half ago... viral and spent about 2 weeks out of work and almost $300 in doctor visits and medications before getting rid of it. Did I mention that because I was so light sensitive our cell phone bill was astronomical that month as well (I couldn't watch TV, look at the computer or read). YIKES!

I definitely don't want any of Conrad's pink eye so I am diligently washing my hands. But since he is drooling, snotty nosed and his eye is draining... this may be a bit difficult. All of this hasn't phased him one bit. He is still happy go lucky with a cough and eye gunk!
